Introduction

The Réseau Compost Citoyen (RCC) is a national association whose aim is to promote and develop Prevention and Proximity Management of bio-waste (PGprox).
The network now has around 700 members, and has spread throughout the country in the form of regional networks.

The main thrusts of the RCC will be:
- Promotion of local composting (distribution of webinars and newsletters, deployment of shared or individual composters, worm composters, etc.)
- Training, provided by trainers based on an ADEME-approved reference system.
- Support for individuals, administrations, local authorities and professionals in implementing best practices.

Prevention and local management of biowaste through the Citizen Compost Network

Prevention = Acting upstream

This means :

- Producing less organic waste by reducing the quantity of food purchased and the quantity of plants grown in the garden.
- Combating food waste by raising household awareness of good practices for purchasing, storing, managing quantities cooked and diverting food leftovers.
- Limiting the cutting of plants and leaving them in place, reducing watering and fertilization by using slow-growing plants. This will reduce the amount of organic waste produced in the garden and encourage biodiversity.

Local management = Manage and recycle on site

This means that waste is managed as close as possible to where it is produced, so that every citizen can sort his or her organic waste at source. Putrescible waste can be processed directly on site: either individually in the home, or collectively at the foot of a building, in a district or in an establishment.
This management method also limits the quantities and costs borne by local authorities (collection + processing).

That's where RCC comes in:

Local organic waste management practices rely on the active commitment not only of households, but also of other waste producers.
Training and support will ensure the sustainability of these practices and the smooth running of operations (for example, by developing social links when setting up a composting site around festive events, or organized visits to the site). All this is done in close collaboration with intermediaries such as Site Referents, Guides and Master Composters trained by the Réseau Compost Citoyen partner organizations.

Actions and services offered by the Réseau Compost Citoyen

Training

To guarantee the success of Prevention and Proximity Management of biowaste, it is crucial to train key players, such as Compost Guides and Masters, Site Referents, organizers, agents and local authority Waste Officers. This will ensure effective support for households and producers of biowaste. The Réseau Compost Citoyen and ADEME have set up a training program for these players to guarantee the quality of the training courses.

Although domestic composting relies heavily on the commitment of volunteers, technical support is needed to ensure the long-term viability of the sector, particularly for shared composting, which is more complex to set up. Thousands of individual composters remain unused due to a lack of information and technical support. The training program offered by the RCC and ADEME meets these needs.

Professionalize

Train and support competent entrepreneurs or Master Composters wishing to launch their business by offering them assistance:
- to understand their business model and create a business plan, addressing legal and financial aspects.
- to develop a sales strategy and learn about the various communication options available.

Multiply the number of showcase sites: Showcase sites are an appellation for recognizing the quality of local composting, set up by the RCC and divided into several levels (or eligibility criteria). Who is involved? Any entity committed to recognizing and promoting PGprox. Find out more.
