City Worms in the capital!

We're delighted to announce that 500 of our City Worms will soon be joining Parisian households!

As part of the Paris Compost Plan 2016-2020, the Mairie de Paris has chosen Vers La Terre's vermicomposters to give those who wish access to a new way of reducing waste at home.

This compost plan is part of a more global approach, adopted by the City of Paris in 2014, aimed at limiting the waste it produces as much as possible. Like more and more municipalities, Paris is committed to zero waste! To achieve this, it is implementing a number of very concrete awareness-raising initiatives to introduce citizens to new waste management practices. Hence the emphasis on composting and vermicomposting, which are easy and affordable ways to recycle waste at home, in the garden, at school or even at the office!

And to get the ball rolling, the Mairie de Paris has decided to distribute 500 free vermicomposters! All of them have already found their future home, because the operation has been a huge success! Yes, there's not a single City Worm left at the Town Hall! To get your own, all you had to do was send an e-mail and answer an online questionnaire expressing your motivation to set up a waste-reduction initiative on your own scale. Motivated Parisians responded in droves!

To ensure that the distribution of City Worms has the maximum positive impact, it will take place from November 20 to 24, right in the middle of the EWWR 2017!!!! But what's EWWR?

It's the European Week for Waste Reduction, of course! It's an event that takes place across France from November 18 to 25, and is organized by ADEME (Agence de l'Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l'Energie) and France Nature Environnement. Since the best waste is the waste we don't produce, the whole concept of this event lies in actions carried out all over the country to give people the daily keys to reducing their waste easily. (The full program, city by city, is available here: http://www.serd.ademe.fr/programme ).

So, torecap: for the lucky new City Worms hosts, the rendez-vous is at La Maison des Canaux in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, on the banks of the Seine, from November 20 to 24 between 6pm and 8:30pm, for a proper distribution. And for those who weren't chosen, don't worry, there will certainly be other distributions, so stay tuned to the news on this page!
