Is our beautiful blue planet running out of water?Fresh water in any case, and not in our Mediterranean regions, where the trend is towards global warming and summer droughts. So what can we do to avoid wasting this precious liquid? We decided to take a look at an ancient irrigation technique that uses the porous properties of clay: Oyas!
SAVE WATER, AN URGENT ECO-CITIZEN ACT
The COP21 debates on global warming have highlighted the problem of the increasing scarcity of fresh water, which is beginning to affect certain arid zones, not only in Africa but also in France, such as the Mediterranean regions. Each and every one of us is called upon to reduce our daily consumption, with the average French person consuming 150 liters of water a day!
In the midst of showers, washing up, laundry, cooking, etc.,watering plants accounts for 6% of this consumption, so we, who are farmers at heart, have been looking for a solution!
And we found it not far from home, in St Jean de Fos!
OYAS FROM OYAS ENVIRONNEMENT
Oyas or ollas (Spanish for pots or pans) were already in use over 4,000 years ago in China, then on almost every continent. They are small, porous clay receptacles, to be planted or buried, which will water plants naturally and according to their needs.
