House or apartment?
If you live in a house, you have a choice:
- the composter, which you can put in your garden
- the vermicomposter, which you can put outside during the summer months. But beware of extreme temperatures: below 0°C and above 35°C, worms die.
If you're in an apartment, you'll need a vermicomposter. Unless your condominium has decided to install a collective composter or, alternatively, a collective vermicomposter (link: https://verslaterre.com/produit/lombricoll/)
Do you regularly need compost to feed your plants?
If so, choose the vermicomposter, which will give you a new compost bin every 1-2 months.
If no, you can choose between a vermicomposter and a composter. The composter takes longer than the vermicomposter to transform biowaste.
Do you need liquid fertilizer for your plants?
If yes, the vermicomposter will provide you with a percolate, called lombrithé, to boost your plants.
If no, you can choose between the vermicomposter and the composter.
Do you need to recycle large quantities of waste, especially green waste?
If so, the composter is for you. Green waste takes longer to compost, so it's best to use a composter, which takes longer to transform biowaste.
If not, you'll have a choice between a worm compost bin or a composter.
Would you like to take care of it from time to time?
If yes, you can opt for the composter, which needs a little stirring from time to time, turning of the heap once a year, but above all maintenance of humidity, especially in summer.
If not, you can opt for a vermicomposter, which just requires cutting up the biowaste and cardboard. The worms stir the compost, while the biowaste provides the moisture, which is preserved in this enclosed space.
